What is Kenyan Purple Tea?

🌊Kenyan Purple tea is a cultivar of the Camellia Sinensis plant, the same plant from which we get green tea, white tea, and black tea. The reason it’s called purple tea is because of the natural color of the fresh tea leaves when they are plucked from the plant. Kenyan purple tea is packed full of antioxidants similar to other purple or blue fruits as vegetables like blueberries and cabbage. Its beautiful color comes from this antioxidant, anthocyanin. It was first introduced in the 1980s and was made commercially available in 2011, making it a relatively new tea.

Purple tea is known to be a wonderful potion for the skin and hair, and it grants an air of calmness to the body. Its light, woody, and sweet flavor is loved by tea connoisseurs all over the world. Purple tea has less tannins than green tea does, making it much smoother and less astringent to the taste. If you are just beginning to explore this tea, Morning Sleepyhead is a divine option, blessed by the beautiful nymph herself!

How to brew Morning Sleepyhead

1. Measure 1-2 teaspoons per 8oz (225g) of water
2. Heat water to 175℉ (80℃)
3. Steep 2-3 minutes

Depending on if you want your tea to be stronger and more bitter, you can let it steep for longer than instructed. Need your tea to be a bit lighter? Steep it for less time. The possibilities really are endless when it comes to your individual tea experience.
